Coordination of Teams – It’s not always necessary for different teams in a workplace to communicate to one another – in fact, it can be more of a nuisance than a factor in productivity. Some examples of buildings that might benefit from this include hospitality, healthcare and warehouses or work-sites with multiple buildings throughout the facility. Employees often don’t have the ability to go to multiple floors when quick answers are possible with effective two way radio communication. Poor In-Building Penetration – Operating in a building with multiple floors or other barriers to your two way radio signal may require a two way repeater. It is essential that your team is able to coordinate with the main office or with each other for operations and safety. Some examples of requiring better coverage would be a construction or transportation business that has workers on the road or in the field. We often tell users who are required to communicate away from their main base station of operations that a repeater may be something to consider. Poor Coverage – The number one reason for needing a repeater is poor coverage. Here are five common reasons you may need to consider using a two way radio repeater: But not every workplace requires a radio repeater – in fact, in most cases, they’re not necessary.

Typically, two way radio repeaters are used in very low signal workplaces, transmitting signals at higher powers and allowing better communication. With this technology combination, the coverage area in workplaces, and the building penetration for coverage, is greater. Simply put, a two way radio repeater is an infrastructure built to amplify your communication – and has a receiver, transmitter, and a base station antenna. If you are operating in a small to medium sized warehouse, plant, or property, generally two way radio repeaters are not used, but there are unique and special instances where a repeater is the right option for your team communications.īut let’s start with some basic information. In Canada, the majority of radio systems are being used without radio repeaters, or what is known as simplex operations. In fact, this is a question we get asked a lot at Nova Communications! If you’re business is currently using two way radios, or you are investigating using two way radios for communication in your workplace, you may be asking yourself whether you need to be using a two way radio repeater. Not doing so may mean part of your transmission will fail to be broadcast.5 Reasons You May Need to Consider a Two Way Radio Repeater When communicating via a Repeater you need to leave a brief moment after pushing your radio Push-To-Talk button to allow the repeater to start broadcasting. When this happens the cooling fan will spin up as it repeats the broadcast. The repeater will remain silent until a transmission is received. When the power is connected, LEDs will light up on the front panel if featured on the system in use.If there is no A/C supply, and a D/C source is to be used such as a supplied battery pack then this will be connected to the D/C terminals or port depending on the repeater.

If you are running on A/C, simply connect the 240v Mains Lead to the repeater and power source to power up.Connect the external Antenna to the Tx/Rx socket on the Repeater. If a tripod has been supplied this will need to be erected. This should be mounted away from sources of interference (such as power cables, filing cabinets, TVs etc.) if possible. Mount and position the antenna in a vertical position.Place the repeater on a flat surface and allow clearance of the ventilation ports and fans.Setup in a suitable dry, sheltered location with access to power if running on A/C.The below steps offer a guide to the process involved.

Should you decide to install the repeater yourself, instructions will be provided and support available over the phone. We do offer a repeater installation and decommission service but in some cases you may decide to install yourself due to health and safety or other site access concerns. This may be needed should a large area need coverage or there is a struggle with signal penetration due to buildings or interference. When hiring radios, you may be advised you require a Two-Way Radio Repeater system.
